Moving To a New, High-level EU-Georgia Bilateral Cooperation Format

The Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker have agreed on establishing yet another high-level format of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and the European Union (EU).

In particular, the new format considers the development of even stronger sectoral cooperation between Georgia and the EU.

Meeting in Brussels, Belgium yesterday, Margvelashvili and Juncker praised the active and fruitful cooperation between Georgian and the EU leadership in various fields.

Margvelashvili received support from Commissioner Junker over Georgia’s visa liberalization process. Georgia’s role as the leader among the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries was also emphasized.

The recent developments across the occupation line between Georgia and its Russian occupied region of Tskhinvali that caused the death of one and detention of two Georgian citizens were also strongly condemned.

Fifteen days after Archil Tatunashvili’s death, his body has not been handed over to his family for burial, while Levan Kutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili still remain in occupied Tskhinvali.
