Almost a Million Guests Visited Georgia’s Protected Areas in 2017

In 2017, tourists visited the protected areas from 97 countries of the world, with the largest number of visitors from Germany, Poland, Israel, Ukraine and Russia.

Number of visitors at protected areas of Georgia increased by 30% to 957 397 in comparison with the same period last year.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, the number of visitors increased by 203% from the United Arab Emirates, 64% from India, 63% from Latvia, 48% from Lithuania and Russia. For the first time, Georgia’s protected areas were visited by people from Lebanon, Libya, Tajikistan, Yemen, Tunisia, South Sudan and Nepal.

Martvili Canyon – 147 374

Kazbegi National Park – 154 085

Sataphlia – 85 526

Okatse Canyon – 73 113

Number of visitors has grown to the following protected areas:

Machakhela National Park – an increase of 147%

Martvili Canyon – an increase of 136%

Algeti National Park – an increase of 74%

Tbilisi National Park – an increase of 47%

Mtirala National Park – Growth – 41%

Okatse canyon – increase – 40%

Prometheus Cave – Growth – 19%
