Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland in Tbilisi

Polish-Georgian talks in Tbilisi

“Poland supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski underscored during his visit to Tbilisi. The Polish foreign policy chief met today with the president and prime minister of Georgia.

The Minister started his visit to the Georgian capital by laying a wreath at the President Lech Kaczyński Monument. “The Polish government’s foreign policy priority regarding Georgia is to continue the late President Lech Kaczyński’s legacy. The late president’s actions taken in August 2008 reaffirmed the strength of solidarity in the face of a common external threat,” said Poland’s top diplomat during his later meeting with Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili.

The MFA head also met with Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. They discussed prospects for the development of economic cooperation, as well as regional and European security in the context of Poland’s non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council, among other things. “Poland appreciates Georgia’s determined efforts to join the EU and its commitment to cooperate with NATO,” said Poland’s foreign minister. “The Schengen visa-waiver is an incentive for Georgia and other Eastern Partnership countries to enact reforms,” he added.

This was the second day of Minister Waszczykowski’s visit to the South Caucasus states. He was in Azerbaijan on Wednesday and will visit Armenia on Friday.
